On 5 May 2020, 23 Member States of the European Union signed the Agreement for the Termination of Bilateral Investment Treaties between the Member States of the European Union purporting to terminate 132 bilateral investment treaties and the legal effects of sunset clauses contained in eleven bilateral investment treaties that were terminated previously. What is covered by the Agreement and what is not? Which questions remain unanswered? And, of course, what comes now? Please join us for an interactive and engaging discussion about the fate of intra-EU bilateral investment treaties and arbitrations in light of this Agreement.
